we're backward compatible. forward is risky, don't do it on your production
images. i.e. once you used a new feature you might have a hard time going
back to an old version of dt. best case it'll ignore the module completely.

it's a bit more complicated than that...
you need to change install location using --prefix in ./build.sh
and use a script similar to the attach one to configure dt to not use the
system installation at all. That's how I test my DT when coding

The only way I know of is to increase the size of the side panels. You do this
through the preference
