Could you try this command?
$ rm -rf ~/.cache/darktable/*
My theory is cache was wrong. It may or may not help ... but it's should
not cause any problem for you.

I'm since yesterday encountering something quite strange:
thumbnails are rendered as other images then they are, it's mostly
random but roughly every second image suffers from this. I don't really
have any theory... might it be some database that's mixed up?
