Yes I tried the new version of Perl. Unfortunately the result is the same. Do you have the zip files of DBI and DBD supported for Perl 5.8.7 and MySQL 4.1.13?

At the least, you need to read the release notes with the version you have to see which versions of MySQL are supported.
