The user [of DDL::Oracle] who originally reported this error had said:

   I'm running the latest from the latest software: 
   - RedHat 7.1 
   - DBI-1.18 
   - DBD-Oracle-1.07 
   - DDL-Oracle-1.10 
   - Oracle Client 8.0.5.0.0 

He now reports that after upgrading his Oracle evironment to 8.0.6.1,
that the problem has disappeared.  Case closed.

Thanks to those of you who spent time looking at this.  I really
appreciate it.
