Thank you Bjorn!

I wish I haven't sent the email to look for the 5.8.6 source code. It
was wasting your valuable time. I am sorry.

I have compiled successfully the DBI by following your suggestion. I am
using DBI 1.48,  Perl 5.8.7 and AIX 5.2, ML05.

I think I should mention: when I re-built Perl 5.8.7 from source code, I
met one test failing. Following is the message:

Failed Test Stat Wstat Total Fail Failed List of Failed

------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------

op/stat.t 82 6 7.32% 47 49 52 55 58 61

55 tests and 212 subtests skipped.

Failed 1/941 test scripts, 99.89% okay. 6/99805 subtests failed, 99.99%
okay.

root[torts51]/lpp_fs/perl/perl-5.8.7/t:

I tried Perl 5.8.6 installation from source code, and I met the same
thing. So I think either version should be OK. I just passed it and went
to DBI installation for perl 5.8.7. It is successful. So far, I haven't
met problem with DBI.

Thank you again, Bjorn!

Best regards,

Larry

Thank you Bjorn!

Following your suggestion, I am trying to re-build the perl.
Unfortunately, I am only able to find the perl 5.8.7 source code(not
5.8.6 as in your doc), and failed. Would you tell me where I can find
perl 5.8.6 source code? Thank you very much!

Best regards,

Larry

Larry,

It seems to me you don't have perl installed with the -Duse64bitall
flag.

I attached my installation process for dbi and dbd:oracle on ibm aix5.2.
Hope it helps you.

Kind regards
Bjorn

Thanks for your help.

This is Larry Li from Toronto. I am trying to install DBI on AIX 5.2. I
am facing the following failure.

Step 1: seems it succeeded.

root[torts51]/lpp_fs/perl/DBI-1.48: perl Makefile.PL

*** You are using a perl configured with threading enabled.

*** You should be aware that using multiple threads is

*** not recommended for production environments.

*** Note:

The optional PlRPC-modules (RPC::PlServer etc) are not installed.

If you want to use the DBD::Proxy driver and DBI::ProxyServer

modules, then you'll need to install the RPC::PlServer,
RPC::PlClient,

Storable and Net::Daemon modules. The CPAN Bundle::DBI may help you.

You can install them any time after installing the DBI.

You do *not* need these modules for typical DBI usage.

    I see you're using perl 5.008 on aix-thread-multi, okay.

Remember to actually *read* the README file!

Use 'make' to build the software (dmake or nmake on Windows).

Then 'make test' to execute self tests.

Then 'make install' to install the DBI and then delete this working

directory before unpacking and building any DBD::* drivers.
