That would be wonderful, however it needs to update the autoconf
stuff (eg. add the appropriate checks to acinclude.m4), not the
configure script directly, as configure is built by autoconf/automake.

libmysqlclient, but ld doesn't link it in by default? Perhaps

On FreeBSD it may be called something else, or may have a totally
different mechanism. It would be easier probably to
ysqlclient.12 => /usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.12
