Marv, I had the same problem. You might try Openlink Virtuoso[1] as RDF Store. It performs very well. (I loaded almost the complete DBpedia datasets in just a couple of hours (on a fast server)) If you want to try it, I can send you some Unix scripts, my ini file and some hints & links. But
