In the developers' mailing list there is a comment about moving communication
to a channel on slack.
How can I look at the archives of that channel?

Hi:
It seems that DBpedia live hasn't been updating since May.
The most recent changeset at http://live.dbpedia.org/changesets/ is from 17 May.
Is DBpedia live dead, or is it just resting?

As I am just in the middle of trying to put together a high-quality
information base using DBpedia 2016-10, I'll vote strongly for more-frequent
extractions at the expense of dropping some of the datasets.
The problem that I have run into is that there are some major errors in at
least the Italian
gy and mappings.

these parts of DBpedia. That's regrettable, as I would
like to include as much information as possible. But what is really
problematic is that now I don't see how I can count on any DBpedia
information.

Hi:
Is there a roadmap to the 2016-10 dumps. I'm having trouble finding some of
the stuff that I think should be there (particularly the links to Wikidata).
Or maybe there are files that should have content but don't.

disjoint union of several other classes. If there is a need for such
definitions anyway then the cost of using a powerful ontology language
is paid already so it may as well be also used to define classes in terms
of property values.

One reason to have a subclass structure under Person (but also under any
natural kind) is to support generalizations for subcategories. Many of the
subclasses of Person in DBpedia are for occupations, e.g., Architect, Athlete,
NascarDriver, Politician, and Senator. If these subclasses of Person a

How have such questionable statements ended up in the DBpedia
ontology matches Wikipedia.
The current DBpedia is not nonsense. The density of errors is quite low. I
would certainly like for there to be fewer errors in DBpedia and, in
particular, that Wikipedia infelicities that are identified by using DBpedia
are fixed in Wikipedia.

By the way, superclasses would have a subset of the properties of their
subclasses, not a superset.

What are examples of SHACL-like constraints that could be used in the ontology
cleanup?

using this the informal definition of a church would let DBpedia

I agree that there are problems with the mappings. However, how can the
mappings be fixed without fixing the ontology?

Good points all, I think.
As well I would like to know what expressive power is being considered for
the ontology language. For example, will disjointness axioms be allowed, or
local ranges, or constraints?

Along these lines, there are some questionable mappings in DBpedia.
One in particular, is for the building infobox, which is overused in English
Wikipedia. In particular, the Eiffel Tower Wikipedia entry uses this infobox
even though the Eiffel Tower is the most prominent non-building on
http:
Wikipedia defines building as "a man-made structure with a roof and walls
standing more or less permanently in one place" and "intended for human use
or occupation" [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building]. Wikipedia also
suggests examining http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonbuilding_structure for
exam
I agree that a way forward would be to use a well-defined ontology, and set up
themappings from infoboxes to map into that ontologyinstead of the DBpedia
ontology. This would require, I think, a more powerfulmapping technology,
one that can use arbitrary combinations of the infobox information
Deferring to Wikipedia is definitely one of the things that DBpedia should do,
but that cannot be done completely blindly.
For example, Guantanamo Naval Base uses the military structure infobox, but
there is no way that the entire base can be considered to be a military
structure.Either a diffe
I agree that it seems harder to crowdsource ontologies. However, Wikipedia
seems to have a half-decent organization, so maybe it is possible. My view is
that Wikipedia is succeeding, and not just in overall organization, because
there are Wikipedia editors that challenge and remove incorrect an
pfps (see also below).
