Given the price of the box set (about $7-8/CD), I
suspect these shows will be released individually in
ordinary packaging. Ordinary marketing would have
priced the "limited edition" much higher if that were
going to be the only official release of the music.
Steve, could you please get a hold of me [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks
This show was probably at the "Earl Warren Fairgrounds" Auditorium, the most
popular (well, common at least) rock venue in Santa Barbara in the '60's and
early '70's. It may have even been called the "Civic Auditorium" for a
while.
Dick's reel of 9/9/72 is AMR>R>R, FYI. I have been very lazy about putting
my reel to DAT (Dick's is a copy of mine), since my RxR has worn heads.
To whom it may concern (e.g., Scott Clugston?):
the sbd copy of 12/9/81 on tol is probably SMR>D, rather than SMC>D as
listed. Certainly the _long_ cut in The Other One is from the reel master.
According to Dick, this one random post-78 show was in the vault on reel
masters (which did need baking
People have probably already noticed, but the 3 different sources on disc 1 are at three different speeds. IMO, the soundboard portion is at the correct speed, or nearly so.
A strong argument could be made for including some of the Grateful Dead's
successors on this site. If they are not included, we should be equally
sure not to have the Harbeats shows from '68, for example, nor other Dead
offshoots in the '65-'95 years. Many bands do continue with personnel
changes
If these derive from Sandy's old reel (before he even got his Tandberg!),
then there should be many copies with better geneology. Menke's. for
instance, or even my old reel (if I could find it). Pat Lee probably has a
better copy.
Is someone putting together the most complete version of this show yet?
I sent a copy of the Estimated through the end of show to Paul Gibian, who
was going to be sure that there was in fact nothing missing from the "new"
3/18/77 SBD. I want to be sure because: 1)Dick and David Gans were able to
find only one copy of 3/18/77 in the vault (although there theoretically
Someone should put together a complete SBD of 3/18/77 then since the missing
segment of NFA could well be (is, IMHO) the high point of an excellent show;
an intense Caution jam. BTW, don't necessarily be fooled into thinking
there is a piece of St Stephen missing; they didn't sing one verse.
There is definitely 0:34 or so missing from the SBD of NFA; there is a CD in
circulation with the missing piece patched.
what about 12/19/78, perhaps the best show of the year (although 10/21, 1/22
and 2/3,5 could be contenders, of course)
