I noticed that no tracks from the 25th were used in
the new four disc set. Does anyone know if this means
that the multi-tracks had problems or possibly that
this show is being held back for a complete show
release in the future? Thanks...

We've all been wondering for years now as to just why
the electric sets from Harpur College were recorded
only in mono. The acoustic set was recorded in
stereo. There has been endless speculation and the
'official' verdict was 'spurious electrical activity'.
I'll venture a guess that it was no
Saw the thread re: the Matrix '68 shows, not sure if
this will help but what the heck. I've got the 10/8
10/9 10/10 10/30 and 12/16 shows, all of them three
discs except 12/16 which is two. The lineages
supposedly have no cassette gens but who knows. They
all sound very fine.

Any info on this one? Seems Janis Joplin set aside
some money in her will for a big party to be held
following her death (the invitation says "The Drinks
Are On Pearl") and she asked that the Dead play,
assuming THEY were still around too. It was held in
San Anselmo TX on 10-26-70. The Dead pla
Does anyone know the titles of the tunes from the
soundcheck? I've got the following:
Rip It Up>Blue Suede Shoes (4:39)
Unknown (Working Man Blues?) (10:41)
It's an instrumental version of Rip It Up but it seems
to be the same tune as the one from Atlanta on the
12th. There are only bits and p
This is a VERY weird show, I'm wondering if the
listing in the '68 database may be backward. The copy
I received starts out with the jamming tunes and the
second disc has Lovelight>NFA>Lovelight then a long
drums/crowd/chanting piece to end it off. That seems
to flow a bit better than if the sho
I recently received a complete three-disc set of this
show from a soundboard source, and tacked on at the
front is what appears to be a ten-minute soundcheck
jam. The sound is consistent with the subsequent show
and it is definitely not from the show itself, it has
a very loose feel, a few bum no
There are a couple questions I have about the
recording of this show and I'd appreciate any insight
anyone may have. Were the Dead using metal cassettes
or ADAT at this time? The sound during the first song
of the first set appears to fluctuate between mono and
stereo. Is this something that mi
I purchased this LP about fifteen years ago, has a
pink cover and lists the recording date as May 3rd,
1965. The date is incorrect. This is most or all of
the Emergency Crew demos from 11/3/65 plus some of the
Scorpio sessions and 1st LP sessions from 1966. None
of the material is live. All of
I recently received a 3-CD set from Hamburg on the
Europe '72 tour, the lineage was given as: AUD
MR>CD>SHN>CD. The quality is excellent, good
presence, good separation, no cuts or splices that I
could detect, and the show is complete. I was just
wondering if the Dead did any microphone mixes ba
Glad to find a site where people are interested in
details...
It seems the Stonybrook shows from October 1970 are in
MONO, is this a result of problems along the taping
line or were they actually recorded in mono? The
first two nights at Port Chester (2/18 and 2/19) in
1971 are also in mono. 2/1
