On Grassmarket, the street you get on if you go past the Budget
Backpacker and further down, there's a lot of nice eating places. The
pizza place is good, as the Italian one (but a bit expensive. The pubs
are as all other pubs, ok food for not too much money.

I planned to bring some crackers. For bread, crackers etc., there's one
store on the grassmarket (past the budget backpackers), and one if you
go to the right of the church that "splits" the way from the hostel to
Teviot. (They might have one-use plates and knives as well)
