I've been working with symbios 53c895 based card (Tekram DC-390U2W) for
more than one year now. It's bootable from SRM and works better than
the Adaptec 2940U2W card - which I tired beforehand - in respect of
performance.

Folks-
The loadmodules file in the initrd.img was causing the hang. I modified
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd to change qlogicisp to qla1280 before writing out
the file. This put two qla1280 entries in the file, but it seemed ok.
However, I am not out of the woods yet. qlogicisp rears it's ugly
head again

My pc164lx machine is getting old, but it is still great for our backup and file server.
I have recently purchased a new Exabyte 1U packet-loader to use with this machine.
I have come to realize that in order to get this device to work correctly, I need a separate scsi card on the machine.
