attached to a PCI ATA/SATA controller, which can be found in stock,
something like Silicon Image 3112.

OpenOffice.org builds now on x86 and ppc only. Building it on 64 bit
architecture without java is kind of trial.

Another guess is absence of floppy drive support in kernel (not
compiled in, or compiled as module and not loaded).
