No problem; it gave me a chance to look at the Mach64 again...

Hello,
I guess that you spent a lot of time to find a solution to this problem,
and I would like to thank you very much for it.
I will follow your suggestion: first compile and install XFree86 4.x, and
then buy a new graphic card.

The Xserver(1) man page says something about an -audit option, set by
default to 1 and that should "additionally reports all successful

Hello,
that's funny that you talk about the loop device: I wanted to have it
(simply because I often use it), but the kernel compilation crashed on an
error about this function deactivate_page. After having deleted the two
calls to this function, as you told me, I could successfully compile the

I just tried with a 2.4.14 kernel, and then with a 2.4.13 kernel. I get
exactly the same error (cmp does not show any difference between the log
files).
I also tested these 2.4.x kernel with the SuS
My bad...I was thinking Mach32. Ignore me :-P

Are you sure?

beginning, I had an ATI card and X worked perfectly with RedHat 5.3. Now,
I am writting this message under X with SuSE 7.0 an another ATI card.
