According to the 2.6.8 change log, Ingo added support to boot smp opterons in NX mode. Which is fantastic as NX adds a modicom of buffer overflow protection. What I've never understood is how to enable NX pages. There dosn't seem to be a kernel option for it, is it on by default? Has anyone been us

Grub, unlike lilo dosn't need to be "updated" everytime you change your config file. the script, update-grub (bash script check it out with vi $(which update-grub)), looks for kernels on your root drive and makes you a new menu.lst. so that script wipes out all of your changes to /boot/grub/menu.ls

i am not sure about that i dont have a sata drive ... but i did run in to one little gotcha i installed it on my laptop its an amd64 and now i cant use the ndiswrapper to run the dumbo broadcomm wifi card coz of the 32/64 bit thingy :( so i have to run windows at my college to access the wifi
