The 2.6.10 kernel boot process takes over the modem, so that the slamr driver gets the message that the modem is already in use by another driver. To stop this from happening, the drivers/serial/8250_pci.c file must be patched. A patch has been submitted to lkml by Sasha Khapyorsky; I haven't

Hello, gcc-3.3 is not built to cross-compile, only gcc-3.4 is. Thus, you must use gcc-3.4 if you want to compile 32bit binaries on amd64 or 64bit binaries on i386. (That's BTW the reason why our 64bit kernel packages are built with gcc-3.4, as they exist for both architectures.) Kind regards
