Hello,
I would like to suggest to add in The Debian GNU/Linux AMD64 HOW-TO, section
Installing a Debian IA32 chroot system that after creating the chroot, you
should apt-get install locales to select the correct locale. It is
certainly something a Debian newbie would have hard time figuring.

Hi,
I have a silly error updating my sid system
Error: The new file /usr/share/tetex-base/00updmap.cfg does not exist!
and I have a problem with the tetex-base package. The only way that I have to
solve it is to download the sources, recompiling and installing my packages.
Then it works ?

hi all,
i've been trying to install the nvidia-kernel driver on my machine
(uname -r gives 2.6.11-9-amd64-k8), but for no avail. I've followed the
directions found in
/usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-source/README.Debian and suggestions found

There is. But it is in the non-free section due to the license

Hi
I do run Openoffice 2.0 on my computer. I downloaded it from
http://www.openoffice.org
Then I untared it and did
alien --to-deb *.rpm
Then I install it with
dpkg -i --force-overwrite --force-architecture *.deb
Then it installs under /opt/openoffice.org1.9.104 and I make symlink

I installed vanilla headers (2.6.8-11) and all is fine now re compiling.

since I didn't think they should be there! Shouldn't be so trigger

Now on to creating a chroot-ia32

Thanks, putting CC into env did work, now I know where the 3.4 exe is!
However I have another problem now with VMware - the script fails again
with the kernel headers (which I have installed).
I've taken a look at the k-headers tree and symlinks, and I think I know
what's wrong, but wanted a 2nd

You might try specifying CC=gcc-3.4 in your environment
or on the same line as your vmware configure command:
I was running the install script for vmware5, it complained that my
kernel was compiled using gcc 3.4 and my current gcc is version 3.3.5.
I did not compile my current kernel, I installed it (smp version)
through apt-get, so the error msg could well be true.
I tried to install an updated gcc, but

Ah, Pine. The one where the source is too open for its own good.
The Pine licence insists for you to distribute modified versions in source
code form
> Could anybody tell me how to install Pine on a AMD64 platform?
Pine license does not allow "modified binaries" to be distributed,
therefore:
apt-get build-dep pine
apt-get -b source pine
