I have been using debian since 2002, but at age 81 I am too old to
learn a new way of doing basic maintenance on my machine.

have the mmap-ing fit into RAM.
Of course, you have to synchronize your processes using some different
mechanism (pipes, sockets, IPC semaphores semget & semop, Posix
semaphores, ...) or even maybe mutex inside the common shared mmap-ed
memory
/Lenny32/home none bind 0 0
so my 32 bits schroot-ed system share /proc /sys /tmp /home with the
original 64 bits system.

The personality line is important. This uses the personality syscall so
that in the schroot-ed lenny32 the uname call gives the illusion of a 32

Rumors say that most processes consume about 30% more RAM
Hence the hint (even if the 2Gb RAM threshold is arbitrary)

use, you just need to install an SMP kernel (but recent
ones ie 2.6.21 are always SMP!) et voilà.
Of course, don't expect any sequential number crunching program to speed up.
You'll need to parallelize it.
What precisely do you intend to do with your new bi-core workstation?

What did I forget to do?
Is there some sysctl or kernel config to do?
(I googled for RANDMMAP without clues)

with MAP_ANONYMOUS you don't need to open /dev/zero (but internally it is

The double-clock rate is a problem I also encountered on my ATIX200
chipset laptop, MSI S270. See

A workaround is to boot with the noapic flag.
