Shutdown problem on Tyan tiger s2875 dual opteron system.
The command "shutdown -h" does not completely poweroff the system
for kernels 2.6.11, 2.6.12, and 2.6.16. However 2.6.8 does
turn off as it should!
Same board, same problem. I've tried all the fix

Trying to upgrade my kernel image from debian-pure64 -- an image I
pulled from there for another system recently was not found. When I
look, there are many kernel images of many architctures, but none for
amd64. Disturbing.

I'm hesitating over a choice of a dual opteron motherboard. Currently I
consider two options:
Tyan S2875ANRF http://tyan.com/products/html/tigerk8w_spec.html
I have four of these boards. I've seen no board related problems.
