With recent kernels, that's better done with 'ondemand' governor, which controls, in kernelspace, cpu speed according to system load. BTW, kernel 2.6.12 is going to bring an even better governor for amd64 and laptops (and mine is both), named "conservative". Regards, Rafael Rodríguez El Marte
