For Java specifically, the bad news is that for JRE 1.4.2, they
strategically chose the IA64 route. Fortunately, with ast least JRE 1.5,
they are more sensible and chose to release one for amd64. I'm not sure
though which kernel it is targeted for.

You can get the 1.4.2 software from java.blackdown.org, or the 1.5.0

of software is quite limited, and things like java and flash are either
