You can use Martin's tarball installation method. That would get you a
squeeze install directly. I did the lenny install first because it was
easier to migrate my configuration files from lenny (arm) to lenny
(armel).

Last time I tested the 2.6.22 kernel, it booted fine on the NSLU2.
Without a serial port to view the boot log messages, it is hard to
diagnose the problem. Have you tried 2.6.23 from unstable?

subversion to a released form. I suggest that you go back to 2.6.18
until the patched version of the kernel is available.

that it is either a new problem with 2.6.20, or a problem
with Marcus's system, but I haven't run 2.6.20 for an extended period
to know whether there is a problem with 2.6.20.

kernel command line that is stored in APEX (the second stage

fixes which should be infrequent. If you want to run testing, then
change your sources.list file to point to testing as opposed to etch.
