I suggest you tar up your data, change the partition layout, untar it
and change /etc/fstab.
Thank you - I will do that today and report back on how I get on.
Then boot with an explicit root= parameter (for
your new root partition)
Can you expand on that step

Happy to report that it all worked beautifully, and the upgrade to

Can you expand on that step a bit? It seems to me that I am already
booting with an explicit root= parameter.
setenv bootargs_root 'root=/dev/mmcblk0p2'
Obviously I need to adjust to the new root partition, but do I need to

I have resisted upgrading my Sheevaplug to 2.6.32-2 because of the
problem recorded below - I didn't want to do it until I knew I could
spare the time.
Last weekend my Sheevaplug died (broken PSU apparently). I've bought a
new one and transferred the system over.

Exactly the same problem again - the new kernel won't boot with the boot
loader complaining about Bad Magic Number. This time however the
renaming trick didn't work. I've gone backwards and forwards a few
times but it just won't boot

I think I may have worked out what the problem is. As I mentioned in a
separate e-mail to you, my SD card has only two partitions instead of
the three recommended by your installation instructions, and I assumed
