I attached a patch for using asprintf in anna, main-menu, choose-mirror,
wget-retriever and udpkg. udpkg's makefile.in also adds -D_GNU_SOURCE.

Debian 2.2r6 found the right scsi driver for my system and installed
without a hitch. The boot cd for version 3.0 does not find my scsi
controller, and hence it won't install.
This led me to an interesting idea: would it be feasible to create
a statically linked version of the installation
