I dont't know if this can help: (sorry I didn't read all the tread...)
I installed sarge with the current (8 november) sarge installer. I had to boot
with expert26, open a shell, modprobe ata_piix, modprobe libata. The the two
maxtor 6Y080M0 where detected.
My hardware:

Hi: I am having a problem getting to 2.6 with boot and root on raid 1
(and the rest of the system on lvm2). I have tried making initrd's with
various options, etc etc. IT seems that my hardware is getting detected
during the boot, but then all of a sudden comes: "md: md1 stopping".
