I struck this issue doing a full-upgrade from etch to lenny.
xserver-xorg-video-via had status code c (removed - config files not
purged) in aptitude. The problem was resolved by installing it.

LXDE in lenny hasn't support trash can yet. So no need for LXDE desktop
