uname -a: Linux beteigeuze 2.6.7-1-386 #1 Thu Jul 8 05:08:04 EDT 2004 i686 GNU/Linux Date: 2004-07-24 Method: I booted from the netinst CD without problems (both with "linux" and "linux26"). I did a network installation over http from ftp.de.debian.org (no proxy, using a gateway in my LAN). However, these error messages were labeled "NOT YET IMPLEMENTED" iirc. In the german translation, the phrase "Führe Partitionierung" (iirc) is quite confusing. From then on I had to manually select all the remaining installation steps one after one. - I had some troubles with xserver-xfree86: the mouse detection seemed frozen. I've just analysed this by running "time mdetect -v -v -v": mdetect hangs over 5 minutes after printing "Opening device ttyS1..." and then exits with code 2 (see manpage). Note: my mouse is actually a touchpad. It works under X with protocol PS/2 and device /dev/psaux. - On every boot, there are some error messages: Starting hotplug subsystem: [...] isapnp PNP0A03: can't be loaded PNP0C01: can't be loaded PNP0A03: can't be loaded PNP0000: can't be loaded PNP0100: can't be loaded PNP0200: can't be loaded PNP0303: can't be loaded [...] input: PC Speaker PNP0800: loaded sucessfully PNP0B00: loaded sucessfully PNP0C04: can't be loaded PNP0E03: can't be loaded PNP0E00: can't be loaded PNP0501: can't be loaded SMCF010: can't be loaded [...] modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting pciehp (/lib/modules/2.6.7-1-386/kernel/drivers/pci/hotplug/pciehp.ko): Operation not permitted pciehp: can't be loaded missing kernel or user mode driver pciehp [...] modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting shpchp (/lib/modules/2.6.7-1-386/kernel/drivers/pci/hotplug/shpchp.ko): Operation not permitted shpchp: can't be loaded missing kernel or user mode driver shpchp [...] modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting shpchp (/lib/modules/2.6.7-1-386/kernel/drivers/char/hw_random.ko): Operation not permitted hw_random: can't be loaded missing kernel or user mode driver hw_random [...] These files exist; the error messages of modprobe repeat a few times.
