Comments/Problems: I received the MagaRaid hardware today (thank you very much Erik) and this was my first experiment at installing using it. I had to be a bit carefull as the system is my main 'production' server at home. During the installation I let d-i install GRUB to /dev/sda1, which seemed to go alright (no errors). However, my bios won't let me boot off the MegaRaid, so I had to be creative in booting the installed system. In the end I copied the initrd.img and vmlinuz from /boot of the installed system to /boot/newinstall of my old system and manually added an entry (with 'root=/dev/sda1') in the lilo.conf of my old system manually. After this the new installation booted fine. My conclusion is that the MegaRaid is supported correctly in the initrd. I encountered two problems during the installation. PROBLEM 1 ========= It looks like d-i does not umount /hd-media before rebooting after stage 1. When I rebooted into my old system, I found that a check was forced for the partition (ext2) where I saved the .iso. PROBLEM 2 ========= My network card seems to be recognized correctly and I configured the network manually, but after the installation the network connection did not work correctly. I will research this further myself. Next test: replace the ide hard disk in this system by a spare and do a less carefull installation using LVM on the MegaRaid ;-) --------------------------------------- Received: (at 276998-done) by bugs.debian.org; 18 Oct 2004 19:08:13 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Oct 18 12:08:13 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 195-240-184-66-mx.xdsl.tiscali.nl (elrond.fjphome.nl) [195.240.184.66] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1CJcrd-00034r-00; Mon, 18 Oct 2004 12:08:13 -0700 Received: from strider.fjphome.nl ([10.19.66.86] ident=fjp) by elrond.fjphome.nl with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 1CJcr8-0000i5-00 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Mon, 18 Oct 2004 21:07:42 +0200 From: Frans Pop <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#276998: Mostly successful MegaRaid installation (with workaround) Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2004 21:07:42 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: Closing the report as there are no more issues. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
