The servers that I maintain are headless. No X-window display server
is installed, but the packages xbase-clients and xterm are.
The file /etc/ssh/sshd_config has the line
 X11Forwarding yes

>From my workstation, which has a X display server, I do
  ssh -X hls xterm
to get a X-terminal on hls (Head Less Server)
