Is there any inconvenient with the patch I've sent?
Note that although it introduces a direct call to grub-probe,
current version already uses grub-probe indirectly. There's
really no way around relying on grub-probe: every time you
call grub-install or update-grub, grub-probe is running
behind t
After #595007 and #595759 have been fixed, this is the last
remaining piece for basic ZFS support in D-I to be usable.
Is my patch ok?

Alternatively, one could just apt-install grub-common and then
use $chroot $ROOT gr
