Do I understand correctly that the installation worked fine and the first boot worked fine, except that during gdm startup the boot sector was corrupted? That would suggest a serious bug in hardware, the kernel, or privileged userspace, but unfortunately without further information it is not clear how to track it down. > Unfortuanetly I have no logs of that installation which I could provide.
