I issued the following commands in the Lenny installer:
~ # modprobe raid1
~ # mdadm --create /dev/md0 --auto=yes -l1 -n2 /dev/ram0 /dev/ram1
mdadm: array /dev/md0 started.
~ # cat /proc/mdstat
