See attached patch, the comment header explains everything. I'm using

Can you comment / test / improve / give feedback in general?

I think it should be in all installs (note
I believe manual removal of kfreebsd-* binaries from testing is needed
so that gpe-shield can migrate (if that's not the case then sorry for
bothering)

In case this helps, a 8-STABLE snapshot is being uploaded to experimental.
Thanks. It works correctly.
I believe there is a serious problem
Try even this:
dd if=/proc/version bs=1
It might be related to changes of sbuf implementation between 8 and 9.
Robert, please could you test it

Sorry, I'm not following the details on this. In case it helps, I've
uploaded "kfreebsd-downloader" package precisely with this kind of
situations in mind:

Hi Timo,
Please could you check if upstream kernel is also affected?
I've uploaded kfreebsd-downloader package to make this kind of tests easier:
http://incoming.debian.org/kfreebsd-downloader_9.0~rc2-1_all.deb
If this is an upstream bug, filing a FreeBSD PR would be the best option IMHO.
