I'm working on support for i386-pc-linux-uclibc. It should be very
similar to powerpc-linux-uclibc. Here are the patches for i386, probably
with similar changes you can get it for powerpc.
I still have problems building, but I'm not sure it's related with these
changes.

Found this one line patch in Fedora Core's development RPM to fix a
bug in 1.8.2 and 1.8.3 where memset() is being passed it's arguments
in the wrong order, causing it to write no bytes into the pointer. I
wonder if this has an impact on

The machine i used for testing (IBM B50) doesn't have USB, at least
there is no USB connector at the chassis.
The loaded USB modules seems to be pretty useless then.
