Purchased a replacement CD-ROM drive for this machine, but with the same

Seems that on more recent kernels the acpi=off workaround no longer
results in a stable system.

I solved the issue:
The cause for the error messages were two processes; conky and xscreensaver

projects - now they are merged in mlt.
