I experienced the same problem. hostname demands nis to be of version
3.17-30 or higher, but the testing version of nis is still 28.
Installing the unstable version 30 works for now.

KMess crashes by clicking OK or Cancel in Account settings dialog. This crash
is caused by a bug introduced in KDE 4.3.2. The problem is already fixed by
upstream in svn branch. Can you please update the package to include this fix?

Tracing this problem (which can be easily reproduced by starting
arpwatch and then dropping any of the interfaces it's watching)
reveals that it's actually libpcap's main loop which fails to handle
the poll() error.
