I've disabled and re-enabled acpi and acpid. No change in detecting the hotkeys at all. The scripts in /etc/acpi all run as expected when executed as command line commands. It seems the only problem is detecting the hotkeys on F1 to F9. Maybe then not an acpi problem but rather a hal or xorg
