I can start emacs from within xterm but not from gmrun. I have tried to
examine the environment in both cases. There are three variables that
change: PWD, SHLVL and _. There are some more that are not present in
gmrun and its children.
Package: gmrun
Version: 0.9.1-2.4
Severity: normal
gmrun package provides /usr/share/gmrun/gmrunrc as a symbolic link
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 11-12 10:56 /usr/share/gmrun/gmrunrc - /etc/gmrunrc
but the target is missing.

Your advice didn't help :-( As far as I can tell anything about
conpatibility I haven't seen issues like these (em-dash and lower and
upper doble quotes („”)) on my Gentoo at home. I've got
texlive-xetex-2008-r1 installed there.

Syslinux documentation refers to md5pass and sha1pass utilities
for menu password encryption. They are not included in the package
which makes it impossible to use password protected menus
(especially useful for network booting).
