I found a workaround for my issue. I have added in my .xsession:
nautilus -n
with that the wallpaper is displayed.
Nevertheless, it ignores wallpaper change using gnome-control-center.

I reproduced bug #337692 trying to build osgPlanet (from www.ossim.org)
on unstable. I tried upgrading libx11-dev, but this didn't pull a new
x-dev, even though I only had a very old version (4.3.0.

That line is causing the problem :
