Sorry for the long delay - is all I can say.
A simple recompile of the ui file with pyuic would have solved the problem.
No needs for all that hand-patching the python-files as far as I know.
Upstream author is informed about the issue.
Will be fixed upstream and hopefully will be in the upcoming
Package already debianized and builds lintian-free, but need more testing
before it can be uploaded.
Don't hesitate to contact me if someone wants to test the package.

I also found this bug today.. and purging and installing the package
slapd a couple of times and I found out why adding the autobuild ldif
fails...
The config-script doesn't check wether the input is non 7bit-ascii from
the input dialog of organization name. Work-around is to set
organization name
