it should only happen if you tried GRUB Legacy first.
But I try that now.
Any suggestion so that wouldn't even asked inside d-i if GRUB Legacy was tried
first?

it was reverted upstream.
I make now a new upload.
At least I learned my lesson now to never trust the upstream developers,
even more with a experimental branch.
Thanks for the report.

list of bugs: running update-grub takes ages, if you
do kernel testing this is a pain
With the next trunk upload this should improve with many kernels.

complain about that, note that there's a reason why this
is called experimental and not unstable
Or is there a workaround?
There is, see
man dpkg
Honourly I really wonder why someone like you uses stuff from
experimental if he never had a look at dpkg's --help output or its man
page

-install output in the postinst, then you have
to do either sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc and select the device you
boot from or run grub-install /dev/sda yourself.

If you don't use/need the floppy much then just disable it in BIOS.
Then at least real GRUB can't access it at all.
I don't know if Windows/Linux still would check if it exists.
Actually it should only do this if you installed
again I fail at copypaste
I meant #530357

in a useful way I'd just use that.
Then you're probable using the Debian image (or some other) which
doestn't have a resolution of 1600x1200x32
Either try just without any or with a png/tga/jpg image of that size.

strange that disabling root=UUID= usage
fixes this.
If not then it's not the same bug.
If uuid in the root=UUID linux line is the one for your / and initrd
can't find it then it's a bug inside the initrd which is not at all
created by us.

All _executable_ files in this directory are processed in shell
expansion order.
Just use chmod -x to disable it.
Do you have a suggestion to make this more clear?
