I can confirm that this issue has been resolved in version 1.2.4-2. Installing this version in testing made the problems with libc6 go away. Thank you for the support on this.

Got some new info of the upstream maintainer. A couple of new versions are waiting in the CVS tree. Since 1.15 a new message type 'chat' has been introduced. This 'chat'-type is default since 1.16. Current 1.18 has a couple of other fixes aswell. Would be nice to see this in unstable or testin
