Yes. It's obsolete for years. It simply doesn't work that way with
more than one tv card in the system. Boot 2.6.11 and watch the kernel
messages ;)

Looked like typical newbie user error.
I tried several mixers (aumix, alsamixer and kmix) with all available
sources for recording, but it didn't work.
I use aumix. Usually the sound card is line or line1 input (default
is mic, this is what newbies often trap
What was your reason to deviate from upstream here?
Not sure fully any more, was quite some time ago. IIRC there
was a incompatible API change so I changed the soname to not
break packages (although it probably was a bad idea to do that
just in the debian package and not bug upstream about it).

Tried that? Last time I check it didn't even compile with
lesstif. It's quite some time ago

There's only a handful of backwards-incompatible stuff, though, so it
might well be that a symlink hack works for most packages in Debian, but
I'd rather have a second opinion on that from someone more familiar with
libquicktime. Unfortunately, the maintainer appears to be awol recently
