Sorry, I don't use mapserver/mapscript for anything anymore, and the
server setup where this bug manifested has been taken down years
ago. I do suspect that the bug has been fixed, too; I guess the bug
could be closed.

The same phenomenon persist in the newly released stable, Wheezy. The
version 3.2.41-2 on linux-image-3.2.0-4-686-pae still leaves the
screen blank and keyboard locked after resume from suspend.
Suspend worked perfectly with all Squeeze kernels, last similar
problems were with Lenny.

after updating from Squeeze to Wheezy, suspend stopped working on my Acer with
Radeon Mobility X700.
Suspending seems ok, but wakeup not: screen stays blank, no reaction to keys,
cold reset needed.

Actually, reverting to linux-image-2.6.32-3-686 brings X back to life,
with discernible error messsages anywhere.
Morale of the story: always keep a few versions of the kernel
installed, you might just need them...

Testing this with Canon PowerShot A80, and same behaviour, does not open
the camera but a mounted drive. With this particular camera and this
computer, import has worked perfectly before. I'll try to find another
computer to test this on, too.
