Used etch for one year without bigger problems
(only sporadic crashes)
Since release I got regular crashes.
Found a workaround (will close bug if this works for
more than a week)

I'm using dimap with workgroup functions for 2 years now.
Without problems. (It's easy if you know what NOT to do)

clamscan finds false positives in files (in my tests about 1 in 1),
which might get an image problem.
(Never shout fire if there isn't one :-)

Problem still exists in
kdepim 4:3.3.2-1 :-(
But tested serveral things. Findings:
Problem exists only if "Send Now" is selected.
Temporarly storing and sending afterwards ("Send Later")
fixed the problem.
So maybe the bug is inside these lines:
