The above patch for 421772 when applied has solved a great deal of font
rendering trouble particularly wrt to KHTML. In my case, my very old CRT
comes up with some very bad dpi settings.

I'm having the same issue with greedy vs the ATI driver. There is a patch in
bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12520 that fixes it for me. Actually, I
had corruption in several places and this fixes
