Hi,
we're running into this problem, too, on a Debian 3.1 system with some
packages from unstable (incl. spamassassin-3.1.0a-1). The issue appears
to be reported in the SpamAssassin Bugzilla as bug 4590:

There is one suggested workaround to ``use the "--round-robin" switch to
avoid this´´ which I will try and see if it helps.
