The symptoms were different, but perhaps this is a similar problem to that
fixed for i386 in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=769265
There the issue was that the customizations to Marpa::R2's build for the
Debian build mixed up the C compiler flags, so that the target was

I recommend upgrading to the latest Marpa::R2, which includes among other
things, some Debian-targeted fixes. If that is not possible, and you
really need to patch instead, you can start with the one which follows. It
fixes some over-engineering on my part, together with an outright screw-up
By the way, in case you didn't catch it, you may not be able to use the
patch cannot be used quite as is. It advances the version #, which, if
you're just patching and not upgrading, you will not wish to do.
