I agree with the original submitter (Carsten Otto) that the man page and
the code don't match. The code does these steps (if applicable):
1. Rotate (rename) the log file
2. Call the post-rotate script
3. Compress the rotated (renamed) log file

The fix was committed upstream on May 21, 2010. Please backport the
patch if debian won't be moving to an upstream version with this fix soon.
