I have found that the texlive-fonts-recommended package has also some
marvosym related files :
texlive-fonts-recommended:
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/marvosym/marvosym.afm

/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/fonts/map/dvips/marvosym/marvosym.map

In /etc/GNUstep/GNUstep.conf, the GNUSTEP_USER_xxx variables define were
the GNUstep directories
have to be created. Changing them fixed the problem for me.

I did today an upgrade and removed some of the gnustep packages and
since that, when I launch one of
the GNUstep applications (gorm, ...) it crashes with this message

switch to 1.0, either
switch to a lower version that is known to be enough stable like 0.9.7 because
it looks like a lot
